Guides for buying well, caring for pieces, and finding the right maker

A quiet corner of Ongeto Living where we share practical notes on materials, maintenance, and how to read a workshop before you buy. Whether you are new to handmade goods or refining a collection, these resources help you move forward with confidence.

A Field Guide to Buying South African Craft

The resources here are meant to save you time and a few wrong turns. Whether you are trying to identify solid wood, understand glaze quality, or simply want to know which markets are worth the drive, we have gathered the practical notes our team uses when scouting pieces for the directory.

How to Read a Maker's Story

Not every workshop has a website, and not every stallholder at the flea market can explain their process in English. We put together a short list of questions that help you understand where a piece comes from, what it is made of, and how it will age in your home.

Materials That Tell the Truth

Reclaimed wood, hand-thrown clay, woven sisal, brushed metal. Each material has its own signs of authenticity. Our quick reference covers what to look for, what to ask about, and how to spot the difference between a genuine piece and a factory imitation.

Caring for Handmade Objects

A ceramic bowl needs different attention than a waxed timber table. We share the maintenance advice we collect directly from the artisans, so your pieces stay beautiful for years without losing their character.

  • Delivery and logistics queries: 1 to 2 working days
  • Care and maintenance advice: 2 to 3 working days
